Joi west

JOI is a documentary portrait photographer from Birmingham, AL who focuses on the LGBTQ+ community in the American South. She believes photography is a form of storytelling needed to document people who do not often have the opportunity for their voices to be heard. 


Caleb Gumbs

Growing up on the island of St. Croix of the United States Virgin Islands Caleb attended Alabama State University and is now living in Spokane, WA, pursuing a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences at Washington State University. His long term goal is to become both a scientist at a major pharmaceutical company and an outspoken activist for the LGBTQ community

Allowing BLK Pearl to hold TRAP YOGA in The Hub's multipurpose center has been deeply supportive for our community in Birmingham, AL. The Hub is a welcoming space for young gay, bisexual, and transgender men of color who are 13-29 years old. The Hub a program of AIDS Alabama.
